Photography for the Cotswolds hospitality industry
Where story meets strategy
There’s something about this part of the world. The light through a stone window. The weight of a hand-thrown glass. The feeling of a kitchen that’s been feeding people for two hundred years.
I’m Lou Carruthers – a food, drink and hotel photographer based near Cirencester, in the heart of the Cotswolds. I work with restaurants, gastropubs, boutique hotels, craft drinks brands and artisan producers who know that the right imagery doesn’t just look beautiful – it helps the right people feel what you do and choose you with confidence.
THE COTSWOLDS
deserves photography
that matches its quality
This region has some of the finest hospitality in the country – country house hotels where the stone glows golden at dusk, independent restaurants where provenance matters, and craft food and drinks brands making things worth tasting – and worth talking about.
And often, the experience is stronger than the current image library can show. Not because anyone doesn’t care, but because when you’re focused on doing the work well, photography can become an afterthought. The result is imagery that looks perfectly fine, but doesn’t always capture the feeling: the warmth, the reassurance of quality, the little details that make people book. That’s the gap I work in.
I’m a former award-winning baker turned photographer, with a background in human performance psychology and over 20 years of experience design. Which is a roundabout way of saying: I understand hospitality from the inside, and I understand how people respond to what they see before they ever read a word of your copy.
Every shoot I do is built around a question:
What do you need someone to feel when they see this?
what I shoot
Food. Drinks. Interiors. The whole picture
01.
Food & Menu photography
From seasonal tasting menus to Sunday roasts. Shot in your space, with your light, at the time of day that makes it look its best. No studio. No fakery. Just honest food that looks as good as it tastes.
02.
Drink & Cocktail photography
Spirits, wine, craft beer, cocktails, soft drinks. I understand how light behaves in liquid – how to make ice feel cold, how to give a dark rum depth without losing detail, how to make a glass of something look like the best decision someone’s made all week.
03.
hotel & Destination photography
Bedrooms, dining rooms, lounges, gardens, all the details. The kind of imagery that makes someone think “I want to be there” before they’ve read a single review.
04.
brand & product photography
For craft producers, artisan food brands and drinks companies building something worth showcasing. Packaging, product hero shots, lifestyle context.
How it works
What a shoot with me actually looks like
before the shoot
We’ll have a proper conversation – about your brand, your audience, your goals and what’s currently missing from your image library. I’ll put together a shot list and a simple brief so you know exactly what we’re creating and why.
On the day
I work cleanly and quietly in your space, with as little disruption as possible. I understand service. I understand kitchens. I know how to work around your team, not against them. Most hospitality shoots are either a half-day (3–4 hours) or a full day (6–8 hours), depending on what we’re covering.
After the shoot
Edited images delivered within 10–14 working days via a private online gallery. A Standard Web + Social + PR + Owned Print licence (UK, 24 months) is included . Shot lists and scene-by-scene notes so you know exactly what you have and how to use it.
who i love to
partner with
I work best with hospitality and food & drink businesses that:
- Know their quality is there, but their imagery hasn’t caught up yet
- Are preparing for a website refresh, a new menu launch, or a seasonal campaign
- Want a photographer who understands hospitality as well as the visuals
- Are based in or around the Cotswolds or are happy to work with someone who is
If that sounds like you, let’s talk.
Based near Cirencester (South Cerney), I serve the wider Cotswolds area including Cirencester, Cheltenham, Stroud, Tetbury, Malmesbury, Fairford and the surrounding villages.
recent work across the cotswolds
Lou’s work speaks for itself!
My first reaction was honestly ‘wow!’ The colours, lighting and detail made every dish stand out, and the images were even better than I expected. The whole experience was detailed, friendly and relaxed – Lou genuinely cares about getting everything just right. The mood board and plan were incredibly clear, and the results have given us a strong visual presence online. I couldn’t recommend her more.
